A graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Université de Montréal, Dr. Fei Sun first became interested in emergency medicine while working as a veterinary assistant in a busy, multidisciplinary veterinary hospital. There, exposure to a wide variety of medical and surgical cases gave her an appreciation for the diversity and unpredictability that make veterinary medicine so rewarding.
Since moving back home to Ottawa, Dr. Sun has worked in specialty and emergency hospitals, general practice clinics, and mobile veterinary services throughout the region. During this time, she developed an understanding of the role urgent care can play in providing timely treatment while supporting both primary care veterinarians and emergency hospitals.
Dr. Sun’s professional interests include wound repair, soft tissue surgery, and point-of-care ultrasound. She particularly enjoys the variety of cases that same-day appointments can bring, as well as the challenge of helping patients when they need care most. She finds it especially rewarding to help pets and their families through what can often be a stressful and uncertain time.
Since veterinary school, Dr. Sun has volunteered with Community Veterinary Outreach, helping provide veterinary care to underserved communities and their pets through a One Health approach. Through this work, she has come to recognize that caring for animals also means supporting the people and communities who care for them.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Sun enjoys listening to audiobooks, hiking, and trying her hand at new arts and crafts projects. She shares her home with her fiancé, a dog, and a cat, and is always hoping to add a few more animals to the family.
